After a surprising year, Mochi Craft reconfirms its passion for lobster boats, strengthening its position as trend setter in the sector.Originally there was a sincere desire to rediscover that sea feeling and to experience the special and intense mood that seemed to have finished fifty years ago and destined to be only evoked, with a slight nostalgia, through the images and literature of the Fifties. This desire, which was a result of the creativity of Norberto Ferretti and of the projects by Brunello Acampora of Studio Victory Design, led to the idea of producing lobster boats, a new type of craft with a traditional taste, preserving the old style and timeless atmosphere in order to satisfy both feelings and technology and reliability. only one year after launching its first model, the 51’Dolphin, Mochi Craft met with commercial success and critical acclaim exceeding all expectations, thus showing its capability of responding to the hearts of those who regard sea travelling as a real passion, to be experienced with an almost mystical authenticity.
During its first year at sea the 51’Dolphin doubled the sales initially expected, also conquering extra-European markets as well as the front pages of the most important technical magazines in America, the most demanding and skilled country in the lobster boat segment. Indeed, this is where it all started, in New England around the 1930s. The 51’Dolphin will soon be accompanied by the 72’Dolphin which will be presented as a world premiere during the International Boat Show in Genoa. The 72-foot yacht perfectly preserves the unmistakable style of Mochi Craft, already a trademark: her rounded shapes reproduce the natural lines of the Fifties, thanks to their serene harmony, the choice of the most valuable materials, including wood and fabrics. These are ideal to capture the perfume of the sea, while the colours chosen - beige, blue, green, amaranth - remind us of traditions that are part of our history and culture, passed on in the memory of those who love the sea. All of this together creates the alchemy of Mochi Craft: as if by magic, you will be transported into another dimension, where values and timing are exclusively dictated by the water.
Mochi Craft therefore stands for a revolution of the old style, a revamping of the beauties and sensitivities of the past, reread through technological innovation and the reliability of a large Group, a company with the ability of feeling and listening to all the nuances of the sea, thus further strengthening its position as a leader in the nautical industry. The new launch of the Mochi Craft brand is based on an intensive development plan. Indeed, ever since its final acquisition which took place in November 2001, the Ferretti Group has planned the launching of a lobster boat range, presenting boats which are all different in terms of size and fittings.
Mochi Craft is part of the Ferretti Group, one of the world leaders in the engineering, manufacturing and selling of luxury motor yachts. The Ferretti Group, headed by its President Norberto Ferretti and the CEO Giancarlo Galeone, today joins the following brands: Ferretti Yachts, Pershing, Bertram, Riva, Apreamare, Mochi Craft, Custom Line and CRN.
The Ferretti Group, with over 2.000 employees (not considering the induced business) and a surface of about 478.000 square meteres (indoor and outdoor), 15 shipyards in Italy and 1 in the United States, registered a turnover of around 385 million Euro in the nautical season September 1st 2002 – August 31st 2003. The Ferretti Group estimates to close its financial statements on August 31st 2004 with consolidated revenues of over 500 million Euro.
51’Dolphin. I lobster you. The 51’Dolphin is the first lobster boat produced by Mochi Craft. It reinterprets the timeless elegance of the original New England boats, to create a “style for experiencing the sea”.
The 51’Dolphin has that discrete charm which makes your heart skip a beat and takes your breath away. Her graceful lines reinterpret the natural shapes of boats from the 1950’s, reproducing them in a sinuous and harmonious hull, which evokes a dolphin’s shape. The essential “old” style, typical of lobster boats, is wisely approached with the most luminous Mediterranean sensitivity, creating that unique blend of strong character and refined beauty that characterizes the 51’Dolphin. Thus light-colored upholstery alternates with the color of wood, creating a chameleon-like atmosphere for guests, ideal at any moment of the cruise.
The linchpin is the style and the impalpable, timeless elegance, product of Studio Victory Design, founded in 1989 by Brunello Acampora. But above all on board the 51’Dolphin there reigns a mystical atmosphere of respect for the sea, which the boat naturally preserves and transmits, capturing her guests in an irresistible feeling of water and sun. The special shape of the hull, the stern that slowly descends towards the surface of the sea, offering a bridge like a private beach right at the water’s edge, the radical choice of wood covering every part of the boat, her soft shape, all this combines to create the alchemy of the 51’Dolphin’s style and her unmistakable personality.
Beyond style, the superior design succeeds in giving maximum value to space, offering on a 51-foot boat a livability typical of much larger boats. This applies for example to the two wide sundecks, one fixed to the bow and one retractable on the stern, which can hold altogether up to six people lying down comfortably. That’s not all. The retractable sundeck can be turned into a comfortable 3-person sofa which, along with the sofa below the deckhouse, make the sterndeck extraordinarily multifunctional and welcoming. The cockpit is further enhanced by a practical folding table with 4 chairs, stowed behind the cockpit locker equipped with a barbecue, sink and bar fridge. The cockpit is directly connected to the living room by an up-and-over window and a sliding door which, if left open, transform the boat into one large open space. Inside, the warm colour of wood merges with the precious tones of the sofa leather, which along with the light fabric of the roof are the predominant materials of the dining area. The daytime area starts on the left side of the hall, with an extendable table and corner leather sofa made even more comfortable and elegant by retractable armrests. on the right side of the hall, a console contains not only storage shelves and drawers but also a hidden plasma TV and
the living room stereo. The kitchen is partially hidden from the living room by a step. Completely furnished with a large counter top, also the kitchen echoes the boat’s style with the choice of leaving in sight the “classic” rounded, 50’s style silver-plated fridge. Before going down the stairs into the sleeping area we find the steering area. The double chair contains a hydraulic lift system which is particularly useful for maneuvering and mooring, thanks to a roof opening, which transforms the 51’Dolphin into an agile convertible. Below deck the guests on the 51’Dolphin have two double cabins available, while one crew member has a separate cabin with private bathroom. The master cabin has teak walls and flooring and inlaid English-style furniture. The light-colored upholstery illuminates the doors of the closets and bedspread, finely damasked tone-on-tone. A plasma TV, an elegant reading lamp and double closets surround the moment of rest with every comfort. From the cabin there is direct access to a private bath, which is enhanced by tones of teak and English oak. The chromed accessories recall the 50’s style, particularly in the retro shape of the wash-basin, the star-shaped faucet and the towel rings. The guest cabin has twin beds separated by a small chest of drawers with a large mirror above. Completely covered in wood, the room has plenty of shelves and direct access to its own bathroom, which is very comfortable and in the same style as the master cabin bathroom. The comfortable height of the cabins and spacious rooms make also medium-length cruises a real pleasure.
The 51’Dolphin is equipped with a 4-horse power tender, perfectly stowed in the stern. Regarding performance, the 51’Dolphin can reach elevated speeds even with medium motorization. Indeed, the boat can reach 30 knots cruising with 2 MAN 800, while its maximum speed is 33.5 knots. The 51’Dolphin can also be equipped with 2 MAN 900 reaching a maximum speed of 33.5 knots. New at the Genoa Boat Show 9/17 October, 2004 72’Dolphin. Mochi Craft frees immensity. The largest lobster boat ever made will be presented as a world premiere on the occasion of the International Boat Show in Genoa. Mochi Craft launches the 72’Dolphin, a new lobster boat that brings enthusiasts back to the traditional and elegant style of the Fifties. After the great commercial success and critical acclaim of the first model, the 51’Dolphin which in 2003 marked the re-launching of a prestigious brand with unprecedented results, Mochi Craft will present in Genoa the 72’Dolphin, an absolute innovation in its range. After its first model, the 51’Dolphin, today Mochi Craft has decided to launch a 72-foot yacht. The latter is a result of the extremely successful collaboration between Norberto Ferretti, the Studio Victory Design and the Engineering Division of the Ferretti Group, who have chosen to reinterpret the style of New England lobster boats and to double the Mochi Craft fleet. The observer will surely be impressed at first glance by the hull, which reproduces the sinuous and rounded shapes already present in the 51’Dolphin. Also the windows, an unmistakable feature of this yacht, immediately make a strong impression: one of them surrounds the internal helm seat and allows for a wide front view; the two lower ones on the sides allow the guests to admire the sea while sitting very comfortably in the lounge or in the dining area. The size of the yacht is more than 22 metres, it has therefore been possible to design a wide and stylish flybridge on top of the lower bridge. Immediately after boarding the 72’Dolphin you will realise that you are on a yacht born to sail the open seas, which therefore offers her guests plenty of freedom and room to move in. The cockpit is very spacious, as in all traditional lobster boats. It is a multi-function area, carefully equipped with a large fixed table and two comfortable “bench” sofas which turn it into an open-air living room, protected by an electric “sunshade” to keep it cool and shady. Below the cockpit you will find the garage with a large tender and a water motorbike: until very recently such a solution would have been unthinkable for a yacht of this size. As already mentioned, the flybridge is actually a lounge from which you can navigate the 72’Dolphin surrounded by your guests comfortably sitting on the semi-circular sofa, where it is possible to organise a lunch or an aperitif in a really special atmosphere. The journey to discover the 72’Dolphin continues inside, where precious wood is the dominant material in a huge airy open space without structural divisions. Thanks to a sliding door and an up-and-over window there is plenty of light and usable space. The cockpit is separated from this large room where on the left you will find a dinner table for eight people and on the right an elegant lounge with sofa, armchairs and coffee table. Continuing the exploration you will discover the traditional 'American-style' open kitchen, which can also become a separate room, and the indoor helm seat. on the side of the latter there are two doors through which it is possible to leave the bridge and the kitchen without disturbing the guests while they are relaxing in the dinette. Unusual spaces are found also below deck. At the bottom of the stairs, immediately on the right, the ship owner will find the master cabin, a suite provided with a large walk-in closet, a small sofa and two independent bathrooms, from which it is possible to reach the shower or the Jacuzzi, if installed. For guests on the 72’ there is a queen VIP fore cabin with a double bed and a double cabin with twin beds, each with private bathroom. A fourth cabin with a low 'French' bed and a second folding bed, with private bathroom, is located very close to the master cabin. There are different layout versions where this fourth cabin can be used as a private office by the ship owner or as laundry and ironing room, or, finally, as a kitchen. In the latter case, the area on the upper bridge used as kitchen can be turned into an extension to the living room. There are two large cabins available for the crew, one fore and another one aft of the engine room. Next to the main crew fore cabin, apart from the independent bathroom, there is also an area for storage and one for laundry with washing and drying machine. Before landing, it might be worthwhile taking a brief 'technical' look at the engine room. You will discover that the 72’Dolphin not only is a masterpiece in terms of comfort but also has a powerful heart beating inside. on the lobster boat by Mochi Craft it is possible to have two MTU engines with 1.500 Mhp. The 72’Dolphin can reach the maximum speed of 34 knots and the cruising speed of 31 knots. Finally, it is possible to have the innovative Mitsubishi ARG Anti Rolling System stabilisers installed. Thanks to this device it is possible to navigate in conditions of constant safety and comfort and to lie at anchor in a roadstead or in a harbour with full stability on board always ensured.
