logosraf.jpgWhat is fouling ?
The nautical term "fouling" refers to the growth of organic matter on the underside of boats and ships. This can be algae, mussels, barnacles and other types of shellfish. These cause a loss of speed by as much as 20% : a particularly important factor for salvage ships. Fouling can activate corrosion on steel hulls, increase the osmose reaction on polyester hulls, and the rotting of wooden hulls.
